This was really good work! It was enjoyable and evocative, and matched the song very well. The pizza-eating sequence was particularly great. Thanks for posting this, I liked it a lot!

36tomatoes responds:

Thanks, i thought the pizza sequence might go down well. live it , learn it! thanks for liking it!

Super retro 16-bit graphics -- the very image of cinematics from those early 1990s PC games. What a huge amount of work and rendering this must have taken!

I would like to know where the music is from and who composed it. The video goes with it most excellently.

Excellent animation and great music! I particularly liked your background designs -- very clean and evocative. Great work!

Pahgawk responds:

Thanks! Although I was still pretty lazy about it. It is something I definitely am trying to work on.

I remember reading the original version of this delightful story during your tenure at Shonen Jump. I can only hope this is being made into a collectable card game right now, because I totally need to spend my money on that sort of thing and this seems perfect.

Sexual-Lobster responds:

aah yes shonen jump, good times.

This was pretty stupid, but I have to admit that US$200 worth of vouchers is a pretty good reward no matter how you slice it! You could get some really nice shoes for that much.

richardpeel responds:

Indeed they did! They went out the very next morning and bought big, bouncy sports shoes. and they had a little bit left over for sausage, eggs and beans and a can of european-style lager beer.

Fantastic timing in this! Your rhythm was so great it carried into hilarity jokes that a lesser treatment would have dropped. Your cinematic animation was top notch, and the sound quality was a superb. I was thoroughly entertained.

I ate some candy and pretended it was Halloween for the duration, so that part turned out fine too.

CaseyAnimates responds:

Thanks for the review!
I actually thought this one might've been a bit too fast with the pacing, but I'm glad you thought otherwise. Rhythm and timing are really important to me, so I'm glad you liked it!

These are unbelievably great for sprite movies! Your harnessing of common 16-bit side-scrolling gameplay and conventions to tell a complex story with surprising humor and emotion, interesting visual metaphors and rich characterizations is both innovative and fascinating -- particularly since you've done it all without text or dialog. Your timing is superb and your story construction is terrific. Well done for surprising me!

StudioJOHO responds:

Appreciate the detailed feedback, and compliments to timing. From animatic to rushes I hack and hack until there's as few wasted frames as possible.

A great loop! Expressive and interesting, with excellent use of 8-bit sound effects. Nicely done!

TheBoogley responds:

Thanks! I like making the bleep bloop bleeps!! 8D

Not a bad flash! And thanks to you I now never have to play the game. Thanks!

MinotaurusPro responds:

Lol, thanks.
